Teri Figliuzzi
After many years of working professionally as an architectural materials specialist, and woven textile designer, Teri Figliuzzi was furloughed in March 2020, left New York City, and retreated to a rural setting. There she was able to fully commit herself to explore and combine her interests in cyanotypes and weaving, and developed a body of work using only the natural surroundings as subject matter.
Artist Statement
Color, texture, fiber and photography are my passions. Gathering plants and flowers in all stages of their life cycles, I create cyanotypes on fabric. Each step of the process is captured with a photograph. Selected images are then printed on rice paper, spliced, reassembled, woven and stitched with metallic thread.
Working with the single subject matter of foliage, from bloom to decay, has been an incredibly positive experience for me, as they have brought me much joy, and a deep appreciation for the perseverance of nature and its healing power during this unsettling time. My intent is to produce work that brings focus to all stages of life, both tangible and ethereal.
