Bookmaking Workshop (In-Person) with Kimberly Chiaris

Hand Made Folded Books Level One for Photographic Artists with Kimberly Chiaris

This workshop will present three book structures for those who want to incorporate visual imagery into handmade books. The book form will be an extension of the imagery you make or vice versa, but the emphasis will be on creating books. The class will practice making variations of Accordion/Concertina mock-ups and then complete three books - a Reverse Pop-up Accordion, a Dos à Dos, and a Pocket Accordion Book. Students are encouraged to have sample prints to bind in the workshop.

Objective

About folding techniques, paper choices, adhesives

How to create three (3) book structures ideal for visual imagery, prints, and photographs

What participants should bring:

The books you make will be more meaningful if you bring some of your own photographic images, collage imagery, writing, drawings, printmaking, or anything else you might like to incorporate, but it is not required. Everything else will be provided.
