From April 17 through May 31, the Fort Collins Center for Fine Art Photography will host homegrown artist Penelope Sartori for her latest exhibit, In The Garden. She will make a personal appearance on May 2 to answer questions about her collection. This event will take place in the Gould Gallery and is free and open to the public.
Originally a painter from New Mexico, Sartori moved to Colorado and began taking photography classes at Colorado State University in the 90s and has made her home in Fort Collins ever since.
“When I first moved here I was so relieved to find how friendly and kind people were,” Sartori said in a CRAVE interview. “Reminded me of the old days in New Mexico.”
After the move, it was CSU’s photography classes that sparked Sartori’s curiosity for combining the new medium with her paintings. She quickly discovered a newfound love for the process and the results.
“There is something about sliding paint across that smooth photographic surface that I find very satisfying,” she said.
Sartori has no plans to leave Colorado. “Things are looking up for the Colorado art scene,” she said. “I feel fortunate and honored to be exhibiting in a world class venue like the Center for Fine Art Photography right here in Fort Collins. I am also fortunate to be represented by Walker Fine Art, one of the most beautiful art spaces in Denver.”
