STATEMENT
Memories, Stories, Histories exhibition holds the notion of home, familiar places, reminders of days long past, and portraits that delight, sadden, and ultimately have a direct visceral impact. The 49 artists whose work are included in this international exhibition come from United States, Israel, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Canada. Each artist has expressed their own version of what the Memories, Stories, Histories theme means. Each artist assists the viewer to see life in a nuanced manner that may defy expectations.
In viewing a collection of disparate artists work as an exhibition, connections are made that allow the whole of the exhibition to be more impactful than each piece of work. In the same way that as a visitor views one artwork in consideration of the others in the gallery, that one image can speak louder than it might alone. Surprises and delights are just waiting to be found upon visiting the exhibition.
The juror, Amy Galpin, is the curator of photography at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum. Her immense experience and expertise in the photography field is a gift to the Center and the Memories, Stories, Histories exhibition. Don’t miss out on hearing Galpin and several of the artists’ in the exhibition talk about the work in the galleries. Be here at 5pm for the talk.
