Susan Spiritus writes in her juror’s statement for the upcoming Black and White exhibition, “works, which speak to me, must have strength and power of composition; yet need to be simple and elegant. They also need to have uniqueness to them or an experimental quality…” Her aesthectic is evident in the fifty-one pieces she has chosen for the exhibition. Featuring work from Carmen Spitznagel (Juror’s Selection), Diane Poinski (Juror’s Honorable Mention), and Irvin Williams (Juror’s Honorable Mention), the exhibition as a whole is a powerful example of Black and White’s ability to evoke emotional response and portray a poetic sense of the world.

Susan Spiritus is the director of Susan Spiritus Gallery in Newport Beach, California. Susan Spiritus has been a leader in the field of fine art photography for over thirty years, opening the doors to her Southern California gallery in 1976 so that she could share her passion for photography with others.
