There are many avenues for photographic works to be placed in the public eye. So often, we think of galleries, non-profit spaces, and museums, but there are so many other spaces to consider. This workshop will focus on the world of photo editor/director and how to get your work featured.
Two renowned Photo Editors/Directors will walk you through their world while giving tips on what to do and what not to do.

Alyssa Coppelman is an independent photo editor and photobook consultant based in Austin, Texas. She currently holds the positions of Deputy Art Director at Harper’s Magazine; and Art Researcher at the Oxford American, which won the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 2016 and has since been nominated twice in that category. Working directly with photographers, Alyssa provides oversight in editing, sequencing, design, and editorial aspects of photobook projects and portfolios. Working regularly as Archival Researcher on the Emmy-nominated, PBS NewsHour series, Brief But Spectacular, she sources creative visual accompaniment for short interviews with a wide variety of guests. Alyssa serves as guest lecturer to undergraduate and graduate photography students, and has taught photo editing workshops.
Christy Havranek:
Christy Havranek is the Head of Visuals at HuffPost, where she manages a team of photo editors, illustrators and art directors. She oversees all commissioned and in-house photography & visuals, collaborating across the newsroom to elevate visual storytelling. With over 20 years of experience in photography and media, she has worked across multiple industries including book publishing, television, fashion and editorial. In 2017, Havranek launched commissioned photography at HuffPost, a first for the online news outlet. Recently, she has juried photo exhibits with the Center for Fine Art Photography, Lenscratch and Photo Place Gallery, among others, and in 2019 she was an editorial mentor in Women Photograph's mentorship program. She was a pre-screener and juror for Photolucida Critical Mass 2021.
