This course is a good
review for the self
taught - and the beginning
point for those wanting
to unleash the creativity
of photography. The
workshop demystifies
use of those buttons,
dials and many options
that can lead to creative
photography. This
course provides the
basic skills needed
to take many of the
Center’s other
camera-based classes.
The course is designed
for both film and
digital cameras. Your
camera should have
the ability to independently
change the lens aperture
and shutter speed.
If you have any questions
about your camera
for the course, please
contact one of the
Center’s staff
at 970-224-101. The
course is taught by
Larry Padgett, commercial
and fine art photographer.
When you have completed
this course you should
have a good understanding
of the related working
functions of your
camera. The course
provides in depth
discussion and practical
hands-on exercises
covering the following
subjects:
•
Proper exposure: the
relationship of aperture
and shutter speed,
and equivalent exposures
• Auto focus
– how to use
it, when and when
not to use it
• Minimum shutter
speeds to use –
to avoid blurred pictures
• Film speed
and digital equivalent
- effects of faster
and slower ratings
• Metering for
accurate exposures
– how to avoid
being fooled
• When to use
manual, automatic
or program modes
• Controlling
depth of field with
the lens aperture
• Using shutter
speeds for creative
blurring, panning
and timed exposures
• Lenses: lens
speed, focal length
– how to use
them creatively
• Elements of
composition: rule
of thirds, leading
lines, framing, use
of contrast and colors
• Tripods and
other means of stable
shooting
